The Low-E Series by Vista Window Film is about bouncing back energy toward where it came from, regardless whether inside or outside. The “E” stands for emissivity so the 2 films in the Low-E Series – Ambiance and Radiance – are designed specifically to maintain the lowest emissivity levels possible. This is important for those interested in uniform window film performance on both sides of the glass. Glass surfaces reflect, absorb, and transmit heat (all surfaces do this, for that matter). Low-E window glass and those coated with low-emissivity films basically reflect heat back to the source – whether it’s the sun’s rays on the exterior, or heat from a heating unit or furnace in a structure’s interior.

Low-E Window Films Ignore the Seasons

Why is important to know this when considering the Low-E Series films for windows on your home or commercial building? The best answer may be, to ensure consistent temperatures and protection whether it’s summer or winter. In the summer, the Low-E films deflect the sun’s power right back at the sun; and also provide protection from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays (UV rays) and infrared rays (IR rays). In colder months, while still providing protection from the sun’s harmful rays, the Low-E window films bounce the heat right back inside. These are very versatile window films.

The Data Speaks on the Low-E Series Films

How well do the Low-E Series films work? The 2 films perform nearly the best in
emissivity data compared with other Vista Window Film products. No surprise: window film performance data indicates the Ambiance film registers a 0.29 on the emissivity scale (with 1.0 being worst; regular unimproved glass is 0.84); while the Radiance checks in with 0.41. The only other window films offered by Vista Window Film that compete with it are the two from the EnerLogic Series which are off the charts at 0.05 and 0.09. The Low-E Series films rate very well in winter heat loss reduction, at 22 to 32 percent, compared with zero percent for regular glass windows.

Low-E Window Films are Summer-Winter Neutral

Winter heat-savings are important and make the case for a strong consideration for use of Low-E Series window films. In the summer the films also perform well, registering 48 to 67 in terms of summer solar heat gain reduction. A typical un-filmed window glass provides zero reduction. The Low-E window films are designed to improve the window glass so it can better keep your home or commercial property at a consistent, constant and comfortable temperature. If you’re concerned about over-doing a window film where a room might get too cold, or too hot depending on the season, the Low-E films are for you.

Low-E Films by Vista Window Film Just Don’t Recycle the Heat

In summary, Low-E window films provide “an insulating barrier to windows that improves year-round energy efficiency by helping retain heat in winter and helping keep the heat out in summer.” Vista Window Film believes low-emissivity films are excellent for residential and commercial applications where energy conservation is of primary importance. Low-E films aim to provide surfaces that emit low levels of heat – and remember what was stated at the start here, all surfaces absorb and transmit heat. The Low-E films absorb, but don’t transmit.
